View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] The Gwangju and Jeonnam regions are expected to experience heavy rainfall exceeding 200mm over two days starting from the 23rd due to the impact of Typhoon No. 12 'Omais'.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on the 22nd, as of 3 p.m., Typhoon Omais is moving northwest at a speed of 18 km/h, located approximately 310 km southwest of Okinawa, Japan.
Omais is expected to continue moving north, passing near Jeju Island on the afternoon of the 23rd and making landfall on the southern coast at night.
The expected rainfall in Gwangju and Jeonnam on the 23rd and 24th is between 100 and 300 mm. The southern coast of Jeonnam and the area near Jirisan are forecasted to receive heavy rain exceeding 400 mm. Some areas may experience strong rain exceeding 70 mm per hour.
Winds are also expected to be strong, ranging from 35 to 60 km/h (10 to 16 m/s), with maximum gusts exceeding 100 km/h (30 m/s).
On the 24th, the Meteorological Administration predicts that the typhoon's direct influence will bring gusty winds, thunder, lightning, and heavy rain.
A Meteorological Administration official stated, "The strength of Typhoon 'Omais' is weakening, and rain will fall due to the influence of a tropical depression," adding, "Facilities such as screening clinics and vinyl greenhouses should be managed carefully, and maritime safety accidents should be avoided to prevent rain-related damage."
