[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The plastic surgeon who was prosecuted for leaving the late Kwon Daehee bleeding during plastic surgery, resulting in his death, was sentenced to prison in the first trial.
On the 19th, Chief Judge Choi Changhoon of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 8 sentenced Jang, who was charged with professional negligence causing death and violation of the Medical Service Act, to three years in prison and a fine of 5 million won, and ordered his detention in court. Fellow doctor Lee, who was also prosecuted, was sentenced to two years in prison with a three-year probation and fined 5 million won, while doctor Shin was fined 10 million won. Nurse assistant Jeon received a suspended sentence.

Jang and others are accused of failing to properly monitor and take follow-up measures during the surgery on Kwon in September 2016, leading to excessive bleeding and death. In the previous sentencing hearing, the prosecution demanded seven years and six months in prison and a fine of 10 million won for Jang. Lee was sentenced to six years, Shin to four years, and Jeon to two years in prison, respectively.
