Jeonju City Opens Additional Access Road to Jeonju Arboretum
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City will additionally open an access road that goes directly from the World Cup Stadium side to Jeonju Arboretum.
Jeonju City announced on the 18th that it plans to invest a total project cost of 3.5 billion KRW by June next year to create an additional access road to Jeonju Arboretum in the Banwoldong area and decorate it as a garden path.
Jeonju Arboretum, the only arboretum nationwide operated non-profit by a public enterprise (Korea Expressway Corporation), has a facility area of 291,795㎡ and houses a large number of trees including 190 families and 3,737 species. Before COVID-19, it was a local tourist attraction visited by about 650,000 people annually.
However, to get to the arboretum, visitors had to pass through a narrow underground passage in front of the World Cup Stadium and Jeonbuk CBS, which caused continuous complaints about it being too far and inconvenient from the city center.
Accordingly, Jeonju City plans to alleviate traffic inconvenience by additionally opening an access road to the arboretum for citizens and provide various seasonal attractions.
The additional access road will be opened with a length of 650m from near the World Cup Stadium entrance (Ongoeul-ro) to the arboretum entrance.
In particular, Jeonju City decided to plant stone walls, hydrangeas, and dogwoods along the access road to create a garden path, a pedestrian-friendly resting space.
Currently, Jeonju City has completed the appraisal of the incorporated land and obstacles and is in the compensation stage. It plans to complete the detailed design service by December and start construction in January next year.
Jeonju City expects that once the garden path is created, tourists who experienced inconvenience due to the narrow parking lot in spring and autumn will be able to park at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium parking lot and easily access Jeonju Arboretum using the garden path.
