Yeonggwang-gun Conducts Free Dementia Screening Tests for Residents Aged 60 and Over
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Jeollanam-do Yeonggwang-gun (Governor Kim Junsung) announced on the 18th that it will appoint a neurologist as a cooperating doctor and start dementia prevention management to provide customized integrated dementia management services that can detect dementia patients early for residents aged 60 and over.
This dementia diagnostic test allows any resident aged 60 and over to take the first-stage dementia diagnostic test, including individual cognitive function, at the Dementia Safety Center, and the second-stage detailed dementia diagnostic test by the cooperating doctor is provided free of charge.
If dementia is suspected based on the test results, differential tests such as blood tests, CT, and MRI will also be conducted at two contracted hospitals in the area (Yeonggwang General Hospital, Yeonggwang Christian Hospital).
The incurred costs will be fully supported for those with an income below 120% of the median income standard, and services such as dementia treatment cost support, dementia patient care rehabilitation support, customized case management, cognitive enhancement classes, and self-help groups for families of dementia patients will be provided to diagnosed patients and their families.
A health center official said, "If dementia is treated by early detection, it can suppress progression to a severe state or improve symptoms," and urged, "Those aged 60 and over are encouraged to visit the Dementia Safety Center to receive dementia screening tests."
Meanwhile, the county opened the Dementia Safety Center in 2019 and currently manages about 1,800 registered dementia patients.
To ensure that the elderly can take dementia tests in a comfortable atmosphere, counseling rooms, examination rooms, education rooms, rest areas, and dementia cafes are also operated, and dementia prevention management education and early screening are actively conducted.
