BBQ Selects 200 Teams for 'Cheongnyeon Smile Project'
Chairman Yoon Hong-geun Provides Generous Support of 20 Billion Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Yoon Hong-geun, chairman of Genesis BBQ, made headlines by providing generous support worth 20 billion KRW for the ‘Youth Smile Project,’ with 200 youth teams finally selected.
On the 18th, BBQ announced the 200 teams on its official website. These 200 teams were selected from over 3,500 applicants across six regions: Seoul, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Chungcheong, Yeongnam, and Honam, overcoming an average competition ratio of 6 to 1. Through an artificial intelligence (AI) competency test, 500 teams were shortlisted for interviews, and the final 200 teams were chosen through interviews held at the Genesis BBQ Chicken University in Icheon.
The Youth Smile Project is a program that supports entrepreneurship through BSK (BBQ Smart Kitchen), a packaging and delivery-specialized store, targeting 400,000 unemployed youth. The 200 teams will attend an orientation scheduled for this week, where they will receive explanations about the project’s purpose and background, as well as education on store location selection, contracts, opening preparations, and operational management. Starting from the 23rd, intensive training will begin at Chicken University, and Genesis BBQ will divide the 200 teams into six groups of 30 to 35 teams each, with store openings commencing from the 1st of next month. Each team will receive support worth approximately 80 million KRW, including BSK stores, interior design, facilities, and initial operating funds.

Chairman Yoon said, “It was heartbreaking to see young people, who should be stepping into society with passion and enthusiasm, unable to even get proper opportunities due to the economic downturn caused by COVID-19 and youth job shortages.” He emphasized, “Rather than giving fish, teaching how to fish and creating opportunities for these young people to challenge themselves with passion is the role and duty of companies.”
