'Jachibunwon 2.0' Policy Advisory Committee to Begin Full-Scale Activities from the 21st
Communicating with Citizens and Gathering Opinions... Realizing Practical Autonomy and Decentralization through Policy Proposals
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The 2nd Policy Advisory Committee of the Presidential Committee on Autonomy and Decentralization was launched on the 21st and announced on the 18th that it will begin full-scale activities.
The newly launched Policy Advisory Committee consists of 150 members with a term of two years, and reappointment is possible. The chairperson of the Policy Advisory Committee is Professor Kwon Kyung-deuk of the Department of Public Administration and Public Enterprise at Sunmoon University. The committee is composed of experts who have knowledge and experience in local autonomy and decentralization and local administrative systems or possess promotional capabilities related to the activities of the Autonomy and Decentralization Committee. Meetings include regular meetings (once a year) and extraordinary meetings, and members can propose policies related to autonomy and decentralization at any time.
The Autonomy and Decentralization Committee skipped a separate appointment ceremony and presented the appointment letter to Chairperson Kwon at the Government Seoul Office on the same day. Appointed Chairperson Kwon expressed determination, saying, "Through policy proposals based on communication with local residents, I will do my best to enable the Autonomy and Decentralization Committee to practically prepare autonomy and decentralization policies that can solve local issues."
Kim Soon-eun, Chairperson of the Autonomy and Decentralization Committee, said, "In the era of Autonomy and Decentralization 2.0, please fulfill your role in communicating with the public and collecting opinions to create inclusive autonomy and decentralization," adding, "We will listen carefully to the opinions presented by the Policy Advisory Committee members and prepare policies and institutional improvement measures that meet the expectations of residents."

Meanwhile, the 1st Policy Advisory Committee was composed of 143 members and began policy advisory activities on August 21, 2019, and will conclude its two-year term on the 20th of this month.
