TV Debate Among Yeo Presidential Candidates, "Like Nolbu Holding Rice Cakes in Both Hands" - Lee Jae-myung Criticizes 'Governor Chance'
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party presidential candidates launched a barrage of criticism over Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung's 'Governor Chance' controversy.
On the 17th, Democratic Party presidential candidates pointed out Governor Lee's 'Governor Chance' controversy during the 4th TV debate of the main primary broadcasted on Channel A.
Representative Kim Doo-kwan asked, "Have you ever heard the song 'Nolbu-ga'?" and pointed out, "There is a phrase 'holding rice cakes in both hands,' and Lee is exactly like Nolbu." Kim said, "He is holding the primary candidate in one hand and the governor's position in the other," adding, "When I said he should give up the governor's position, I opposed it because I thought responsibility was more important. But now, I think he is using the governor's position for the election."
Kim further demanded an answer, asking, "If you had to choose between being a presidential primary candidate and the governor, you said you would defend the governor's position. Do you still think so?"
In response to such criticism, Governor Lee said, "Public office is responsibility," adding, "There is no need to answer hypothetical questions, but if the party changes the primary rules to require public office holders to quit running, I would choose responsibility."
Former party leader Lee Nak-yeon criticized Governor Lee over the issue of 100% disaster relief payments to Gyeonggi residents.
Lee said, "Gyeonggi Province decided to give 415.1 billion won to the top 12% wealthy. (This amount) could be distributed as 320,000 won each to 1.27 million self-employed people in Gyeonggi Province," and questioned, "Is using the money this way just?"

Governor Lee countered, "This disaster relief fund is meant to provide consolation money to the people affected by COVID-19 and to revive the economy, and excluding high-income earners is discrimination and exclusion."
