President Moon: "Joining Hands with Kazakhstan for Mutual Prosperity... Combining Korea's New Deal Policy and New Northern Policy"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in held an economic meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who is on a state visit to Korea, emphasizing that Korea's New Deal policy and New Northern Policy can be combined with Kazakhstan's new economic policy, 'Nurly Zhol.'
At the economic meeting held at the Blue House on the afternoon of the 17th, President Moon stated, "If we share Korea's New Deal policy, economic development experience, and technological capabilities, it will add momentum to Kazakhstan's new leap forward."
President Moon emphasized, "Korea's investment in Kazakhstan has increased from 2.1 million dollars to 4 billion dollars, and the trade volume, which was only 10 million dollars, exceeded 4 billion dollars in 2019. If the two countries, which have complementary economic structures and common goals, cooperate more closely, they can create much greater synergy."
He also noted that Kazakhstan is striving for industrial diversification and a transition to a digital and green economy with the goal of entering the world's top 30 advanced countries by 2050, and predicted that this could be linked with Korea's New Deal policy. Furthermore, he said that Kazakhstan's new economic policy 'Nurly Zhol,' which focuses on infrastructure construction such as transportation, logistics, and energy, "if combined with Korea's New Northern Policy, will contribute not only to the economic development of both countries but also to the joint prosperity of Eurasia."
President Moon said, "In the summit meeting with President Tokayev this morning, we agreed to further strengthen cooperation in new industries such as big data, 5G, bio-health, and space development," and emphasized, "I hope this will be of practical help to companies in both countries."
He added, "Although Kazakhstan and Korea are far apart, they have exchanged cultures through the Silk Road since ancient times. Now, when the values of solidarity and cooperation are more precious than ever, I hope that companies and governments of the two countries will join hands and open a new Silk Road toward a future of mutual prosperity."
President Tokayev responded, "The Republic of Korea is one of our largest trading partners," and said, "Korean companies have successfully entered and are operating in various fields such as food, mining, and automobile assembly, but the potential for bilateral cooperation has not yet been fully utilized."
He emphasized, "Korea has achieved great success in metal processing, automobiles, food, medical and health, and education sectors, and Kazakhstan wants to cooperate in digitalization and innovation," adding, "We are interested in the direction of cooperation, and as president, I will personally take an interest and continue to support it."
President Tokayev also mentioned, "I believe the share of renewable energy in the national energy sector will continue to increase, and I have great interest in renewable energy. I discussed this with President Moon during our meeting and also talked about it when meeting with Korean companies in the afternoon," suggesting the possibility of cooperation in the renewable energy sector.
