Jeong Jin-ung Appeals First Trial Verdict in 'Han Dong-hoon Abuse of Authority' Case
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Deputy Chief Prosecutor Jeong Jin-ung of the Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office, who was found guilty in the first trial for assaulting Prosecutor Han Dong-hoon during a search and seizure and was sentenced to a suspended prison term, has appealed the verdict.
Deputy Chief Prosecutor Jeong's lawyer submitted an appeal to the first trial court, the Criminal Division 22 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Yang Cheol-han), on the 17th. The prosecution has not yet appealed.
Deputy Chief Prosecutor Jeong was prosecuted on charges of official assault for pressing down on Prosecutor Han's body and causing injuries requiring three weeks of treatment during the seizure of Han's mobile phone SIM card at the Judicial Research and Training Institute on July 29 last year. Prosecutor Han was under investigation by the prosecution at the time over allegations of involvement in the attempted coercion case related to former Channel A reporter Lee Dong-jae.

The court found Deputy Chief Prosecutor Jeong guilty of assault and sentenced him to four months in prison with a one-year suspension and a one-year disqualification. However, the court acquitted him of the injury charges.
