Jeonnam Province Promotes 'Kkalkkeumibujari Project' to Revitalize Stay-Type Tourism
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 17th that it will actively promote the ‘2021 Namdo Kkalkkeumi Bed Linen Project’ to revitalize safe and pleasant stay-type tourism.
The Namdo Kkalkkeumi Bed Linen Project is a program that supplies high-quality bedding to small-scale lodging businesses and supports the cost of washing used bedding for hygiene and safety.
In preparation for the operation of the ‘2022~2023 Jeollanam-do Year of Visit’ and the revitalization of domestic travel, the province plans to provide hygienic accommodation environments to tourists visiting the Jeonnam area.
The support targets include tourist pension businesses, hanok experience businesses, foreign tourist city guesthouses, and rural guesthouses. Priority support industries were selected considering accommodation facility selection criteria and the need for bedding improvement during domestic travel.
The bedding will be supplied as high-quality products tailored to users’ standards and designed as separable types for easy laundry management.
The bedding is to be washed after one use to maintain a clean lodging environment.
Additionally, for lodging businesses requiring bulk laundry, social enterprises, disabled enterprises, and village enterprises will be discovered and designated laundry businesses will be used.
The support scale is about 3,500 rooms, which is approximately 30% of the total 11,700 rooms in the Jeonnam area. Support targets will be selected through evaluation by a selection committee in each city and county.
The total project cost is 2 billion KRW, with the province covering 300 million KRW, cities and counties 700 million KRW, and participating businesses 1 billion KRW.
So far, Jeonnam Province has held several meetings with city/county officials, businesses, and experts since early this year, and through expert consultations, established support standards such as bedding supply criteria and business self-payment ratios to enhance project performance.
To strengthen the clean Namdo lodging image, a Kkalkkeumi Bed Linen BI (Brand Identity) is being developed with a target completion in September. The BI will be applied to bedding and promotional materials to widely promote Jeonnam’s clean image.
Going forward, efforts will be made for post-management and awareness improvement to establish the project. Supported lodging businesses will be strictly managed by regularly checking whether the ‘one-time use washing’ is implemented.
Businesses failing to comply with the inspection results will have their subsidy support suspended. Participating businesses and inspection status will be disclosed on city and county websites so that tourists can easily find and trust clean lodging businesses.
After the BI development is completed, when the production and distribution of bedding branded as ‘Namdo Kkalkkeumi Bed Linen’ are actively carried out, it is expected that tourists’ travel satisfaction and the clean Jeonnam image will greatly improve.
Yoo Mija, head of the Tourism Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “The importance of cleanliness in lodging businesses has rapidly increased due to COVID-19. We expect this seed money project to help spread the image of safe travel in Jeonnam and greatly contribute to improving visitor hospitality services for the Year of Visit Jeonnam and the Jeonnam International Sumukhwa Biennale.”
