[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Sancheong Korean Medicine Museum, which opened in 2007 as the first Korean medicine specialized museum in Korea, will install an “Immersive Content Experience Zone” utilizing augmented reality (AR) technology.
The county announced on the 17th that it will invest a total of 1.2 billion KRW (500 million KRW from the national government, 100 million KRW from the provincial government, and 600 million KRW from the county) to renovate the Sancheong Korean Medicine Museum into an immersive content experience facility.
This immersive experience facility installation project follows the museum’s selection earlier this year for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s “2021 Public Museum and Art Gallery Immersive Content Production and Experience Zone Creation Support Project.”
The renovated space will be the Korean Medicine Experience Hall on the second floor of the museum. It will be themed around realizing the future value of Korean medicine and will introduce a total of five immersive contents.
First, a diorama of the old traditional medicine street will be created using augmented reality (AR) and projection mapping techniques to realistically depict the lifestyle of the old medicine street.
Additionally, an interactive media wall will be configured using beam projection and sensors, graphically conveying key processes of traditional Korean medicine treatment, including acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal decoction preparation.
Through a transparent display, real medicinal tools will be exhibited to more easily provide actual usage information about medical instruments.
Furthermore, medicinal cuisine made from Sancheong’s representative medicinal herbs will be animated to attract interest.
Finally, media art inspired by Sancheong’s native medicinal herbs will be used to create a healing space.
The production and installation project of immersive content at the Sancheong Korean Medicine Museum is scheduled to be completed and unveiled to the public by November 24.
A county official said, “Through the immersive content production project, we hope to present a new vision of Korean medicine to visitors of our museum and provide an opportunity for local residents to enjoy culture. We will strive to manage it so that it becomes a catalyst for creating future value for Donguibogam Village and Sancheong County.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s public contest project, in which the Sancheong Korean Medicine Museum was selected, is conducted among 25 institutions out of 242 public museums and art galleries nationwide.
