Gwangyang Hope Library Hosts Author Lecture in Humanities on the Road Series
Picture Book Publication in October, Classes Also Offered for Creating E-books
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Jeonnam Gwangyang Hope Library announced on the 17th that following writer Lee Sang-hee on the 14th, writer Kim Lira will be invited on the 21st to conduct a special lecture for the 2021 library 'Humanities on the Road' course participants.
Since being selected for the 'Humanities on the Road' public project in April, Hope Library has been conducting a class titled 'I am also a Creator! Making My Own Picture Book' for 24 elementary school students.
To assist children in making picture books, the first meeting with writer Lee Sang-hee on the 14th was held online via ZOOM, considering the ongoing COVID-19 cases.
In a lecture on the theme 'What is a Good Picture Book?', Lee explained the conditions a good picture book should have and emphasized the importance of reading by saying, "The best way to judge a good picture book is to read a variety of picture books regularly."
Additionally, using John Burningham's picture book The Secret Party, the children created promotional posters and had a session called 'Making My Picture Book Poster' to promote their own illustrated books to friends.
On the 21st, writer Kim Lira will be invited to hold a session titled 'How is a Picture Book Made?' to learn about the production process and methods of making picture books.
In the lecture, Kim plans to focus on picture books using pop-up illustrations and guide children through various forms of picture book production processes.
Hope Library plans to complete the 'Making My Own Picture Book' class by August, edit the works, and publish the picture books in October. Starting in September, they will conduct a class titled 'My Picture Book, Level Up to an E-book,' where children will read and record their own picture books to create e-books.
