[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Economy and Finance indirectly expressed opposition to Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung's decision to provide disaster relief funds to all residents of Gyeonggi Province.
On the 17th, Lee Eok-won, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, responded during the plenary session of the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee when Park Hyung-soo, a member of the People Power Party, asked, "Does the Ministry of Economy and Finance intend to recommend correction regarding Governor Lee's decision to provide support funds to all residents of Gyeonggi Province?" He said, "During the review process of the 2nd supplementary budget, the government and the National Assembly engaged in intense and in-depth discussions, and the results were finally decided through the plenary session vote, so I believe the decision content needs to be sufficiently considered."
He added, "Whether administrative consultation adjustment or guidance recommendation (by the Ministry of Economy and Finance regarding Gyeonggi Province) is possible needs to be examined further."

Recently, Governor Lee announced that he would provide disaster relief funds to all residents of Gyeonggi Province, including the top 12% income earners who were excluded from the government's 5th disaster relief fund recipients. The National Assembly had previously approved the 2nd supplementary budget, which included providing 250,000 won per person to about 88% of the population.
