This is in accordance with the district's plan to ‘Erase One Habitual Illegal Dumping Area at a Time.’
The contest category is posters, and the participants are students enrolled in schools within the district (including university students).
The theme is related to eradicating and preventing illegal garbage dumping, including ▲ the foul odors and alley environment degradation caused by illegal dumping ▲ raising awareness about conflicts among neighbors ▲ warning messages about illegal waste disposal ▲ new ideas for creating clean alleyways.
Slogans are mandatory.
Participants can freely create works using oil painting, watercolor, crayon, computer graphics, etc., and the work size should be 4-cut (394mm × 545mm). Only one entry per person is allowed.
Those wishing to participate should submit their work and application form to the Waste Management Team, 5th floor, Resource Circulation Division, Yongsan-gu Office (150 Noksapyeong-daero, Yongsan-gu).
The related forms are posted in the announcements/notices section on the district website. Transportation costs are the responsibility of the participants.
If requested by schools, the responsible officials will visit the schools to collect the works in bulk.
The district will display the submitted works in the district office civil service center and conduct a preference survey among officials and visitors. Afterwards, the district judging committee will evaluate the works based on creativity, public value, usability, and thematic relevance to select winners: Grand Prize (1 person), Excellence Award (2 persons), Encouragement Award (3 persons), and Effort Award (10 persons).
Works that have won other contests or plagiarized others’ works will be excluded from judging, and awards may be revoked if such cases are discovered. Submitted works will not be returned.
Winners will receive a commendation from the district mayor and book gift certificates worth up to 300,000 KRW. The judging results will be posted on the district office website at the end of October.
Mayor Seongjang Hyun of Yongsan-gu said, “We are holding a poster contest to prevent illegal garbage dumping to create a clean residential environment,” adding, “Selected works will be used as images for illegal dumping warning signs.”
The district is striving to establish a proper waste disposal culture and reduce household waste in accordance with the Metropolitan Landfill Site Import Quota System. The goal is to reduce the average import volume from 2017 to 2019 (31,951 tons) by 5%.
Key measures include ▲ erasing habitual illegal dumping areas one by one ▲ neighborhood competitions to reduce household waste ▲ operation of recycling stations in residential areas ▲ campaigns to avoid using disposable products ▲ recycling coffee grounds (composting). The erasing of habitual illegal dumping areas is being carried out simultaneously in about 60 back streets within the district.
