Police Conduct Search and Seizure at Office of Yudeokyeol, Dongdaemun-gu Mayor
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] The police conducted a search and seizure of the office of Yu Deok-yeol, the mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, in connection with allegations of embezzlement in the course of duty.
On the 13th, according to the police, the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency sent investigators to Mayor Yu's office and residence to secure related materials.

The police are known to have been investigating after detecting signs that Mayor Yu arbitrarily used Dongdaemun-gu public funds. Mayor Yu served as the mayor of Dongdaemun-gu from 1998 to 2002, was re-elected in the 2010 local elections, and has been in office since then.
