[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential primary candidate and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, will visit Haewido in Sinan County, Jeollanam-do, the birthplace of the late President Kim Dae-jung, to commemorate the 12th anniversary of Kim Dae-jung's passing during the 'Kim Dae-jung Peace Week' (August 13-18).
Lee's official campaign, the 'Open Camp,' announced on the 13th that Lee plans to visit major cities in Jeollanam-do, starting with Mokpo and Haewido on the 14th, followed by Yeosu and Suncheon on the 15th.
On the morning of the 14th at 9:30 AM, Lee will first visit 'Mokpo New Port.' At this location, where an offshore wind power complex is being established, he will emphasize the importance of 'regional balanced development' and 'fostering the renewable energy industry,' and express his intention to actively support the successful establishment of a 'logistics hub for offshore wind power.'
Later that afternoon, he will depart from Mokpo Port to Haewido, the birthplace of the late President Kim Dae-jung.
Haewido (荷衣島), meaning 'lotus flower wearing clothes,' is an island located 57.6 km from Mokpo. It is home to Kim Dae-jung's birthplace, a memorial hall, and a park, attracting many visitors paying tribute.
At this site, Lee plans to honor the late President Kim Dae-jung, who devoted his life to democracy, human rights, and peace despite numerous persecutions, and reaffirm his commitment to carrying on the 'DJ spirit.'
On August 15, Liberation Day, at 10:40 AM, Lee will visit the Yeosu Anti-Japanese Independence Memorial Tower located in Yi Sun-sin Park, Ungcheon-dong, Yeosu City.
There, he will pay tribute to the noble patriotism of the 40 independence activists who sacrificed their lives for liberation.
He will then visit Yeosu Port, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, and attend a meeting titled 'Yeosu Port's New 100 Years, Opening a New Maritime Era' at the Yeosu Expo Convention Center.
In the afternoon, he will hold a meeting with party members from the eastern region of Jeollanam-do and conclude his official two-day schedule in Jeollanam-do.
A representative of the Open Camp stated, "This schedule reflects Lee's determination more than ever. Since it is Peace Week commemorating the 12th anniversary of President Kim Dae-jung's passing, we expect this visit to be even more meaningful."
