Salbasion "Surge in Requests for Importing COVID-19 Preventive Drugs"... Approval for Use Imminent
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] BioLog Device, a KOSDAQ-listed company, announced on the 13th that its affiliate Selbasion's nasal spray Covixyl (COVIXYL-V) was featured in Newsweek, one of the three major American news magazines alongside Time.
On the 12th local time in the U.S., Newsweek introduced Selbasion's Covixyl in an article titled "Complementary Protection May Be at Hand With a COVID-19-Preventing Nasal Spray." According to the article, Covixyl is evaluated as a nasal spray that can prevent COVID-19 infection.
Covixyl, developed by Selbasion, blocks the virus from attaching to tissues in the nasal cavity, which is the main entry point of the virus. This study, conducted at Bioqual Inc., a laboratory that validated the Pfizer vaccine, and at BSL-3, showed that COVID-19 was 99.99% inactivated. It also confirmed that there were no clinical symptoms such as gradual weight loss caused by the treatment.
Recently, as the lambda variant with vaccine escape ability has been found worldwide, opinions are emerging that prevention should be prioritized over vaccines. Covixyl, which can suppress COVID-19 infection for more than six hours, is gaining attention. Selbasion has applied for approval for use in multiple Latin American countries where the lambda virus is the dominant strain. The first approval is expected soon in the Dominican Republic.
Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in the U.S. is also forthcoming. The product is made from food additives and pharmaceutical ingredients that have been used for decades. Since nitric oxide (NO) is the main ingredient, it is expected to enter the market faster than other products that require several years of clinical trials. Approval from the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for medical devices is also pending.
