Daegu City's Nakdong River Water Intake Diversification Project Accelerates... Kwon Young-jin Promises "Mutual Development with Gumi City"
If Final Agreement on Joint Use of Water Intake is Reached, Daegu City to Secure 300,000 Tons per Day from Gumi Haepyeong Water Intake Station
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The Nakdong River water intake diversification project, a long-cherished project in Daegu, is expected to gain momentum with Gumi City's conditional approval.
On the 12th, Kwon Young-jin, Mayor of Daegu, expressed gratitude to Jang Se-yong, Mayor of Gumi, who conditionally agreed on the joint use plan of the Haepyeong water intake facility, and to the citizens of Gumi at the city hall press room. He also reaffirmed promises to resolve concerns that Gumi citizens had raised so far.
Daegu City plans to support Gumi City with a budget of 10 billion KRW for residents near the Haepyeong water intake facility as soon as an agreement is signed with Gumi City, and to help increase income for nearby farms through direct trade markets for agricultural and livestock products.
They also agreed to actively cooperate for the economic development of the Gumi area, including expanding tenant industries to revitalize the sale of the Gumi 5th Industrial Complex. From the start of the pipeline construction, which the government has already promised, Daegu will actively support the realization of Gumi's long-cherished projects such as the establishment of the KTX Gumi station, along with an annual budget support of 10 billion KRW through the Nakdong River watershed fund.
On the 11th, Jang Se-yong, Mayor of Gumi, stated, "We seriously recognize the citizens' concerns and anxieties about the joint use of the Haepyeong water intake by Daegu City, and will do our utmost to prevent any damage," adding, "While accepting the Ministry of Environment's position, we will proceed while protecting residents' property and rights."
Mayor Kwon Young-jin said, "This time, I hope Daegu and Gumi can solve the water issue, become closer neighbors, and open a new era of soaring together toward a greater future," and "I earnestly ask for the full support of the central government, the citizens of Daegu and Gyeongbuk provinces, and the local political community."
