[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] As four fatal electric shock accidents occurred consecutively this month, the Ministry of Employment and Labor issued an 'Electric Shock Risk Alert' on the 12th and strongly urged compliance with related safety rules.
According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor on that day, following a fatal electric shock accident during dust removal work in the underground electrical room of a high school in Daegu on the 2nd, a total of four fatal electric shock accidents occurred this month at a chemical plant in Yeosu City (4th), a construction site in Goyang City (7th), and a workplace in Jinju City (11th).
Electric shock accidents tend to occur intensively in August, the peak of summer. Over the past 10 years, a total of 252 fatal electric shock accidents occurred, of which 61 cases (24%) happened in August.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor emphasized that since most fatal electric shock accidents occur due to non-compliance with basic safety rules, workers must strictly follow the three basic rules: ▲ protective measures around live wires and wearing protective gear such as insulated gloves and boots ▲ cutting off live wires before work ▲ grounding of electrical machines and devices, and installation of leakage circuit breakers.
