Lee Jae-myung: "I Understand Concerns That Supporters of Other Democratic Party Candidates May Not Support Until the End"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, acknowledged that it is impossible to satisfy everyone amid concerns that some supporters of other presidential primary candidates within the Democratic Party of Korea will never support him. He pledged to do his best to win their support.
On the 11th, Lee posted on Facebook under the title "It is impossible to satisfy everyone, but relentless effort is entirely my responsibility," stating, "There are concerns that some supporters of rival candidates in the Democratic Party's presidential primary will never support me, and even the other candidates say they cannot persuade their supporters to back me." He added, "I fully accept this and will work even harder."
He continued, "(This is) the fate of a politician," emphasizing, "Whether people support me or not, I will not neglect a single citizen and will be evaluated solely through relentless reflection and action to solve the livelihood issues of all citizens."
Furthermore, he expressed strong determination, saying, "I still feel there are many shortcomings. I will sincerely work harder, fill those gaps, and earn recognition through achievements."
He also stated, "I believe that being faithful to my duties is the best way to persuade those who turn away from me," promising, "At this moment, I will focus on helping those who endure each day worrying about an uncertain tomorrow to worry less and live with a little more peace of mind."
Additionally, he said, "As I have done so far, I will break down the walls of vested interests and pave a new path where everyone can live together," and pledged, "I will strive harder to hear people say, 'Yes, this is enough,' 'This is worth supporting,' and 'I want to give my heart.'"
Earlier on the same day, Seol Hoon, a Democratic Party lawmaker and election campaign committee chairman for former party leader Lee Nak-yeon, appeared on a broadcast and said, "If candidate Lee Jae-myung becomes the final nominee, it is uncertain," adding, "I have a precarious feeling about whether I can truly accept the various controversies surrounding him," remarks that sparked controversy as they could be interpreted as refusing to accept the primary results.
Moreover, in a recent poll, more than half of Lee Nak-yeon supporters stated that if Lee Jae-myung is confirmed as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, they would not vote for him. In contrast, more than half of Lee Jae-myung’s supporters said they would support Lee Nak-yeon if he were chosen as the candidate, showing a stark contrast.
