KCC to Hold 33rd Plenary Meeting on the 11th
Seoul Mirae Forum Becomes Largest Shareholder of Gyeongin Broadcasting
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The Korea Communications Commission held its 33rd plenary meeting on the 11th and announced that it has approved the appointment of 9 directors and 1 auditor of the major shareholder of MBC, the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation (Bangmunjin).
The newly appointed directors are Kang Jung-mook, Kwon Tae-sun, Kim Ki-joong, Kim Do-in, Kim Seok-hwan, Park Sun-ah, Yoon Neung-ho, Lim Jeong-hwan, and Ji Sung-woo, totaling 9 members. The auditor will be Park Shin-seo, a former member of the Korea Communications Standards Commission.
The KCC explained that among the 22 candidates selected as interviewees for Bangmunjin directors on the 4th of this month, 9 were appointed as directors through a secret ballot by the standing commissioners.
The term of office for the new directors and auditor is 3 years. The chairman of Bangmunjin is elected by the board of directors through a secret ballot in accordance with the "Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation Act."
Meanwhile, on the same day, the KCC approved the change of the largest shareholder of Gyeongin Broadcasting to Seoul Mirae Forum Co., Ltd. However, to ensure the separation of ownership and management of the broadcasting station, conditions for approval were imposed, including the expansion of the appointment of independent outside directors.

Kim Hyo-jae, a standing commissioner who was in charge of the review, explained, "Gyeongin Broadcasting is a small-scale local radio station covering the Incheon area and parts of Gyeonggi Province, and its sales dropped to 4.7 billion won last year due to COVID-19 and other factors." He added, "We listened to the opinions of Cho Dong-sung and Min Cheon-gi, the actual representatives of Seoul Mirae Forum, and confirmed their determination for the local radio station to contribute to the community."
