Ye Young-guk, Representative, "Firmly Opposes Lee Jae-yong's Parole"
"Urgent Need for Livelihood Amnesty for COVID Disaster Vulnerable"
"Lee Jae-yong's Parole is a Preliminary Step for Park Geun-hye's Pardon 추진"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Justice Party has strongly opposed the parole of Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong and has launched a one-person protest.
On the 9th, the Justice Party held a 'Press Conference Urging the Denial of Lee Jae-yong's Parole' in front of the main gate of the Government Gwacheon Complex, stating, "We firmly oppose the parole of Lee Jae-yong." That afternoon, the Ministry of Justice held a closed parole review committee meeting at the Government Gwacheon Complex and began reviewing the eligibility for parole of candidates including Vice Chairman Lee. The Ministry of Justice will select parole candidates through the review committee.
Representative Yeo Young-guk said, "This is a moment when it may be confirmed whether the principle of 'justice for all' or 'justice only for those with money' is institutionalized, and whether the deep-rooted judicial distrust that only ten thousand people are equal before the law, not everyone, prevails."
He criticized, "The business community, which claimed that the fate of Korea's semiconductor industry depends on Lee Jae-yong, and the Democratic Party of Korea, which openly sympathizes, will also lift Lee Jae-yong's employment restrictions," adding, "It seems like a prearranged deal."
He continued, "Both the business community and the ruling party know very well that if only the employment restrictions are lifted after parole, there will be no problem with his return to management," adding, "It is practically no different from a pardon."
Representative Yeo evaluated, "Lee Jae-yong's parole is a trick to reduce the political burden of President Moon Jae-in, who avoided responsibility," and "Furthermore, it is a preparatory stage for promoting the pardon of Park Geun-hye." He said, "It is easy to predict that after releasing Lee Jae-yong, a criminal involved in the state affairs manipulation scandal, under the pretext of reviving the economy, Park Geun-hye will be released under the pretext of national unity," emphasizing, "What is needed now is a livelihood pardon for the vulnerable affected by the COVID-19 disaster above all else. The Justice Party firmly opposes Lee Jae-yong's parole."
Kang Min-jin, leader of the Youth Justice Party, started a one-person protest in front of the Ministry of Justice. Kang said, "At the time when the parole argument for Lee Jae-yong was gaining momentum, the Ministry of Justice announced a policy to relax the parole term criteria applicable to Vice Chairman Lee," pointing out, "The government cannot hide its responsibility behind the parole system procedure."
