Yoon Hee-sook to Hong Joon-pyo, who criticized Yoon: "Even if votes are urgent, the cause of regime change must not be undermined"
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] As Rep. Hong Joon-pyo of the People Power Party criticized former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, on the 8th, Rep. Yoon Hee-sook of the same party pointed out, "No matter how urgent the votes are, should we destroy the great cause of regime change?"
Rep. Yoon, who declared his presidential bid, wrote on his Facebook on the same day, "Former Minister Cho's 'double standards' are the great cause and symbol of regime change. By blatantly exposing the regime's despicable double face, our people realized how much the value of fairness has been trampled by the Moon Jae-in administration," he said.
He added, "Rep. Hong is trivializing the investigation of former Minister Cho to attack former Prosecutor General Yoon," and questioned, "Is Rep. Hong now saying that our people have been fooled by a mere power struggle? If this is not an act that denies the great cause of regime change, then what is it?"
Earlier, Rep. Hong said in an interview with Kukmin Ilbo on the same day, "Former Prosecutor General Yoon's 'investigation of Cho Kuk' was a power struggle within the Moon Jae-in administration. Former Prosecutor General Yoon wrapped this (the Cho Kuk investigation) in fairness and common sense," adding, "Didn't former Prosecutor General Yoon himself say that the investigation of former Minister Cho was a loyalty to President Moon Jae-in? He was a mercenary of the Moon Jae-in administration."
Targeting Rep. Hong, Rep. Yoon said, "Where is the person who loudly declared, 'This is not a simple Cho Kuk gate but a Moon Jae-in administration gate involving the Blue House, Ministry of Justice, and courts, and a second Choi Soon-sil incident'?" and "Isn't that the same person who said about the Cho Kuk incident, 'The only place to correct this wrong situation is the prosecution,' and 'Let's watch closely whether Yoon Seok-yeol's prosecution can really catch even the living power and whether the prosecution's investigative function is alive'?"
He continued, "Rep. Hong, who was like that, is now regressing the meaning of the Cho Kuk investigation just to gain votes, which is making himself a laughingstock," he sharply criticized.
Finally, Rep. Yoon said, "It is disappointing that someone who tries to ridicule not only himself but also the people to bring down a leading candidate, but above all, how can we put someone who expects a primary election by dividing the support base as the leader of regime change?" and added, "I hope that the senior member of the party will keep his convictions and fight fairly, living up to the nickname 'Hong-Cola.'"
