COVID-19 Confirmed Cases Reach 1,395 Nationwide by 6 PM, 36 More Than Yesterday

Clusters of Infections Erupt Nationwide... 1,700 Cases Expected Tomorrow
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] As the fourth wave of COVID-19 continues in South Korea, new confirmed cases were reported across the country on the 6th.
According to health authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day, a total of 1,395 new COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed nationwide. This is 36 more than the 1,359 cases recorded at the same time the previous day. It is also 191 more than the 1,204 cases reported last Friday (July 30), a week earlier.
As of 6 p.m., the interim tally of confirmed cases had been exceeding 1,000 daily, except for a brief drop to three digits at the beginning of this week on the 2nd (887 cases), but since then, it has again recorded between 1,300 and 1,400 cases.
Looking at the regions where confirmed cases were reported, 908 cases (65.1%) were from the Seoul metropolitan area, and 487 cases (34.9%) were from non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, Seoul reported 421 cases, Gyeonggi 406, Gyeongnam 105, Incheon 81, Busan 76, Daegu 60, Gyeongbuk 49, Daejeon 44, Chungbuk 37, Chungnam 31, Gangwon 22, Jeonbuk 14, Ulsan and Jeju 13 each, Gwangju 10, Jeonnam 8, and Sejong 5. Confirmed cases were reported in all 17 cities and provinces nationwide.
Since there is still time until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced at midnight on the 7th is expected to increase further, reaching the 1,700 range. On the previous day, 345 cases were added after 6 p.m., closing at a final count of 1,704.
The fourth wave, which began in early last month centered on the Seoul metropolitan area, has recently spread to various non-metropolitan areas, showing signs of nationwide spread. Daily confirmed cases have remained in the four-digit range for 31 consecutive days from the 7th of last month (1,212 cases) to this day.

Looking at the new confirmed cases reported over the past week from the 31st of last month to this day, the daily figures were 1,539 → 1,442 → 1,218 → 1,200 → 1,725 → 1,776 → 1,704, fluctuating between 1,200 and 1,700. The daily average over the week was about 1,515 cases, with the average daily local transmission cases reaching 1,453.
