Namgu Opens Two Public Small Libraries for Night Access
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju (District Mayor Kim Byung-nae) recently extended the nighttime operating hours of public libraries to provide convenience to office workers and other library users, and has decided to extend the opening hours of two public small libraries in the district.
According to Nam-gu on the 6th, the two public small libraries in the district, Yangnim-dong History and Culture Small Library and Bangnim 1-dong Flower Village Small Library, have been open until 8 PM and 9 PM on weekdays respectively since the 2nd.
Originally, the operating hours of these small libraries were until 5 PM.
Accordingly, the Yangnim-dong History and Culture Small Library is open from 10 AM to 8 PM on weekdays except Thursdays, which is a closed day.
Also, since they were previously closed on weekends and thus unavailable, with this extension of opening hours, book lending and return services can be used from 10 AM to 4 PM on Saturdays.
The Bangnim 1-dong Flower Village Small Library is available from 9 AM to 9 PM on weekdays, but remains closed on weekends.
Earlier, Nam-gu took measures to ensure that residents in the district do not experience inconvenience in using the libraries by hiring temporary workers and utilizing small library volunteers as the opening hours of the two small libraries were extended.
Along with this, after a pilot operation until the end of this year, they plan to review expanding this to other small libraries in the district based on a satisfaction survey.
In addition, since June, Nam-gu has extended the operating hours of the district’s public libraries, including Pureungil Library and Youth Library, by 4 hours from 6 PM to 10 PM to accommodate office workers and nighttime users.
Three smart libraries in the district are also operated year-round without holidays so that books can be borrowed whenever needed, 365 days a year.
