Gangnam-gu Low-Income Seniors Can Use Hotels Free for Up to 2 Nights During Heatwave Warnings
Free Provision of 40 Hotel Rooms at 4 Locations for Low-Income Seniors Aged 65 and Over... Operation Until the 31st
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) is operating a "Safe Shelter" from the 3rd until the end of this month for low-income seniors aged 65 and over (basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, elderly customized care service recipients, etc.) who are at risk of heat-related illnesses due to the ongoing heatwave.
The district has secured 40 rooms through agreements with four hotels: Ibis Styles Ambassador Gangnam, Hotel Peyto Samsung, Hotel Prima, and Best Western Premier Gangnam. When a heatwave advisory (watch or warning) is issued, up to two people can use one room free of charge for 1 night and 2 days or 2 nights and 3 days.
Eligible individuals can be identified by the local community service centers or residents can apply directly at their local community service center. Seniors who require transportation due to mobility difficulties on the day of check-in or check-out can receive vehicle support from the community service center to the shelter.
One senior who used the shelter expressed satisfaction, saying, "I tossed and turned every night at home because there was no air conditioner, but here it was cool and comfortable, so I was able to sleep well."
