Progressive Party's Kim Jae-yeon Announces Presidential Run with Pledges for a 4-Day Workweek and a 2025 Inter-Korean Union Era
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Kim Jae-yeon, the Standing Representative of the Progressive Party, declared her candidacy for the presidential election on the 5th. She promoted a "labor-centered nation where people are happier working less."
On the same day, Representative Kim stated through the YouTube channel ‘JinboTV’, “The issue cannot be resolved by remodeling such as personnel or generational changes; a systemic change is necessary.”
She presented five major visions: implementing a four-day workweek to resolve inequality, establishing a country where labor unions are common sense, the 10th constitutional amendment centered on labor, full realization of the public concept of land, and entering the first phase of a federal unified republic.
Representative Kim emphasized, “We can end the era of ‘grinding down’ workers by working 70 days more annually than Denmark, which ranks among the highest globally for extremely long working hours,” and added, “Labor will shift from being ‘exhausting’ to a source of self-realization and pride in life.”
She continued, “By raising the top income tax rate to 45%, increasing the corporate tax rate to 30% for the top 300 large corporations, and imposing a 90% tax rate on inheritance and gifts over 3 billion KRW and real estate capital gains over 300 million KRW, a four-day workweek without wage cuts can be implemented.”
Regarding real estate, she said, “Preventing individuals from owning land can block asset inequality that arises from inheriting land from parents and starting life at different points,” and proposed to presidential candidates, “Let’s dismantle the real estate speculation republic and protect the housing rights of ordinary people through a ‘one-point’ constitutional amendment on the public concept of land in this election.”
She added, “We will open the era of the South-North Union, the first phase of building a federal unified republic in 2025, based on a prompt 4th declaration of the end of the war and peace agreement, transition to a volunteer military system, and peace disarmament.”
