S-1 Launches Full-Scale ESG Management... Replacing Patrol Vehicles with Eco-Friendly Cars by 2040
Concrete Plan Focused on Safety: "Leading Corporate ESG Management with S1's Unique Strategy and Execution"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] S-1 (CEO Noh Hee-chan) has decided to completely replace all dispatch vehicles nationwide with eco-friendly cars by 2040. On the 5th, S-1 announced the declaration of 'ESG Management' including this plan and stated that it will engage in management activities fulfilling its social responsibilities. To this end, S-1 launched a task force (TF) earlier this year and prepared for ESG management for about three months. On the 29th of last month, it held a board meeting to establish an ESG Committee and officially began ESG management activities.
S-1 declared specific action tasks including ▲'Green Mobility' to replace dispatch vehicles with eco-friendly cars ▲'Eco Package' to recycle security device waste ▲'Strengthening social contribution activities' for a safer Korea ▲and 'Creating a win-win culture' through support for partner companies.
First, S-1 aims to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050 through various eco-friendly policies. To this end, it plans to convert all in-house business vehicles to eco-friendly vehicles by 2030. Additionally, electric cars and electric two-wheelers will be piloted as dispatch vehicles at some business sites, and electric vehicles will be gradually expanded so that all dispatch vehicles nationwide, totaling about 1,500 units by 2040, will be completely replaced with eco-friendly cars. This is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated from operating internal combustion engine vehicles.
S-1 will also actively engage in the 'Eco Package' initiative, which recycles security device waste and replaces existing packaging with eco-friendly materials. Approximately one million security devices, weighing about 2,000 tons, are collected annually from the field. Although a significant amount has been discarded, S-1 plans to drastically reduce the amount of waste generated by improving the recycling system. To this end, it will utilize the recycling system at its logistics center located in Asan and replace the packaging materials used when shipping security devices with eco-friendly materials. Since about 650,000 packaging materials are used annually, it is expected to achieve a substantial environmental protection effect.
S-1 also plans to actively contribute to creating a safer society. First, it promised to provide more support for activities ensuring the safety of youth. It will expand the 'S-1 Academy,' which supports youth career and academic advancement, and the 'Hope Scholarship Project,' which helps youth in correctional facilities grow into healthy members of society. It also plans to strengthen 'CPR training' conducted at government offices and schools. Preparations are underway to obtain approval as a 'Safety Education Institution' designated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
As the industry’s leading company, S-1 has also established plans to foster a win-win culture with partner companies. S-1 shares its patents with small and medium-sized partner companies and provides technical support while also creating a mutual growth fund to support financing. Furthermore, S-1 plans to help partner companies independently assess and implement ESG status and share management know-how if necessary, to spread the value of ESG throughout the industry.
