Song Young-gil on 'Gyeonggi-do Disaster Relief Fund' Controversy: "Local Governments Will Decide"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 3rd regarding Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, a ruling party presidential candidate, considering a 'disaster relief fund for all Gyeonggi residents,' that "it will be decided by the local government."
After finishing a meeting with the National Self-Employed Emergency Committee that morning, Song told reporters this. It appears he does not intend to get involved in the controversy over the Gyeonggi disaster relief fund, which has become a point of contention among presidential candidates. Seemingly aware of this, in his opening remarks at the meeting, he emphasized, "As the party leader who must manage the primary, I will support the six excellent candidates so that their confident policies can be expressed and communicated to the public," adding, "I will fairly consider all six candidates and manage the primary to create a 'one team' Democratic Party, enabling the party to present a new vision to the people."
