[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Chinese President Xi Jinping responded to North Korean Workers' Party General Secretary Kim Jong-un's congratulatory message on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party, calling it a demonstration of the friendship between the two leaders. He also mentioned "under the new situation," emphasizing the friendship between the two countries amid the US-China competition by stating that "China and North Korea will excellently safeguard their relations."
On the 30th, Korean Central Broadcasting reported that President Xi sent a reply letter expressing gratitude to General Secretary Kim for the congratulatory message on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party and the oral letter of consolation regarding the flood damage in Henan Province.
In his reply, President Xi referred to General Secretary Kim's congratulatory message, saying, "This showed the friendship of Comrade General Secretary with myself and the Chinese Party and people, as well as the Korean Party and people." He added, "On behalf of the Chinese Party and people, I sincerely express my gratitude and send my heartfelt greetings to Comrade General Secretary and the Korean Party and people."
He also stated, "China and Korea are both socialist countries led by the Communist Party," and said, "Under the new situation, the Chinese side will work together with the Korean side to implement the important common understanding achieved by both parties and excellently safeguard China-North Korea relations."
President Xi declared, "We will contribute to the socialist cause in both countries, bring happiness to the peoples of both countries, and actively contribute to achieving regional peace, stability, development, and prosperity."
Regarding General Secretary Kim's oral letter of consolation for the flood damage in Henan Province, he also "expressed gratitude" in his reply.
