View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Amid calls for the pardon of former President Park Geun-hye led by opposition presidential candidates, Yoon Ho-jung, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, targeted former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung, People Power Party lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo, and former United Future Party leader Hwang Kyo-ahn on the 29th, calling it a "cringeworthy chorus."
At a policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Floor Leader Yoon pointed out, "These days, the word 'national unity' is heard quite frequently from the opposition. However, since those who cause national division and public conflict are competing to speak about it, the public's confusion is only growing."
He said, "Former Prosecutor General Yoon said he is not without regret regarding the investigation of former President Park that he led. He implied that the impeachment was wrong," adding, "Former Chairman Choi urged a decision for national unity regardless of political gains or losses and called for the pardon of former presidents. I wonder if the person doing political calculations is not himself."
He continued, "Lawmaker Hong said that if the pardon is not granted, there will be regrets, and former leader Hwang made statements close to threats, saying that President Moon Jae-in should quickly pardon to avoid hardships," criticizing, "It is not only excessive but also rude."
Floor Leader Yoon said, "They seem either shameless or unaware of what national unity means," and added, "It is very concerning that the leading opposition presidential candidates seem to be trying to move behind the strong current of impeachment one after another."
