Kim Jong Un Pays Tribute at North Korea-China Friendship Tower... "North Korea-China Friendship, Firmly Inherited Across Generations" (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, visited the North Korea-China Friendship Tower on the 28th to lay a wreath and stated, "The friendship between North Korea and China will be inherited through generations."
The Rodong Sinmun reported on the 29th, "Comrade Kim Jong-un visited the Friendship Tower on the occasion of the 68th anniversary of the Great Fatherland Liberation War Victory."
The Friendship Tower was erected in 1959 to commemorate the participation of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army in the Korean War and is also a symbol of the blood alliance between the two countries.
General Secretary Kim said, "Raising high the banner of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, the true combat friendship and selfless spirit of sacrifice of the volunteer soldiers who fought shoulder to shoulder with our army during the fierce and desperate days of the war are vividly engraved in the great victory history and in the memory of our people."
He continued, "When our republic went through the harshest and most difficult moments, the noble spirit and merits of the Chinese people who supported our people's sacred historic struggle with their blood will be immortal along with the prosperous socialist Korea," adding, "The blood ties that bind the North Korea-China friendship will be firmly inherited through generations on the path of our common cause."
Accompanying the visit were Party Secretaries Jo Yong-won, Ri Il-hwan, and Jeong Sang-hak; Chief of the General Staff Pak Jong-chon; Director of the General Political Bureau Kwon Yong-jin; Minister of National Defense Ri Yong-gil; and Ri Byong-chol, recently removed Vice Chairman of the Party Central Military Commission. The newspaper listed Vice Chairman Ri's name immediately after the Party Secretaries but placed him foremost among the military leadership.
