Seoul Metropolitan Council Votes 'Unqualified' for Kim Hyun-ah, SH President Nominee
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim On-yu] The Seoul Metropolitan Council announced on the 28th that it has passed a progress report with an 'unqualified' opinion on the confirmation hearing results for Kim Hyun-ah, the nominee for president of the Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH).
The council's special personnel hearing committee explained, "Candidate Kim has consistently resorted to disparagement and criticism without presenting concrete alternatives for public housing policies, and has also been insufficient in presenting a vision for the corporation's development."
Additionally, it pointed out, "As a multi-homeowner, the explanation regarding the process of wealth formation is unclear, and further verification is needed concerning the opaque accounting transactions of the corporation where she served as co-representative, as well as issues related to insincere asset reporting."
No Sik-rae, chairman of the special committee, stated, "She lacks the basic qualifications to undertake the important responsibility of managing the Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation," adding, "Although the appointment of the president is the authority of the Seoul mayor, the mayor is also responsible for any problems arising from appointing an unsuitable president."
At the hearing the previous day, candidate Kim commented on her multi-homeownership, saying, "For someone of my generation, it was easier to own a home than it is now, and I received a kind of generational privilege as my assets increased due to rising housing prices."
