Typhoon 'Inpa' Makes Landfall in Southern China... Over 500mm of Heavy Rain in Shanghai Area
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] Typhoon No. 6 'Inpa' passed through the Gangnam region including Shanghai and Zhejiang Province in China, bringing heavy rainfall exceeding 500mm in a day.
According to local media such as the South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 26th, the China Meteorological Administration announced that Typhoon Inpa made landfall in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, south of Shanghai, around noon the previous day, then moved back to the sea before making a second landfall around noon on the 26th in the Shanghai area. Due to the influence of Typhoon Inpa, heavy rain ranging from 250 to 400mm fell over a day from 8 a.m. the previous day to 6 a.m. on the 26th in eastern coastal regions of China including Shanghai, Zhejiang Province, Anhui Province, and Jiangsu Province.
In some areas of Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, 951mm of rain fell from 8 a.m. on the 22nd to 6 a.m. on the 26th, marking the highest recorded rainfall for a typhoon making landfall in Zhejiang Province. In Shanghai, strong winds uprooted street trees in various locations, and 14 roads in low-lying areas were flooded due to the rain, causing traffic restrictions. In Zhejiang Province, 1.65 million people had evacuated urgently from typhoon risk areas by the evening of the previous day.
