In June, Wado in Dupori, Samsan-myeon was selected for the 'Desirable Island' cultivation project hosted by Gyeongsangnam-do. Accordingly, there was an explanation of the basic island cultivation plan by the responsible department of Gyeongsangnam-do, as well as lectures on successful domestic and international cases of similar projects and creating famous islands.
As a follow-up measure, the briefing session on that day included establishing a cooperative within the village as the main body to promote the basic plan, step-by-step village creation education through a residents' university, post-management marketing, population inflow through job creation, sustainable operation, and an overall explanation of the project contents.
The county plans to utilize resources such as the cypress and bamboo forests in Wado, the quaint church, and the closed elementary school to expand various convenience facilities such as trails and water playgrounds through this project.
Along with this, various experts from Gyeongsangnam-do will be deployed to conduct a more thorough and detailed survey of island resources, and ultimately, through discussions with island residents, transform the island into a resident-led specialized island.
The project will start the basic plan service in August to derive project ideas suitable for the island conditions, complete the basic plan by November, and then proceed with full-scale detailed design and construction next year, aiming for completion in 2024.
