Gil Gi-yeon, Former CEO of Korail Tourism Development, Appointed as New CEO of Seoul Tourism Foundation
New Chairman Appointed: Byun Bo-kyung, Vice Chairman of Ambassador Hotel Group
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 22nd that it has appointed six new executives, including Gil Gi-yeon, former CEO of Korail Tourism Development, as the new CEO of the Seoul Tourism Foundation, and Byun Bo-kyung, Vice Chairman of Ambassador Hotel Group, as the new Chairman.
Starting from the 26th, the new CEO Gil will lead the Seoul Tourism Foundation for three years, carrying out tasks to promote Seoul's tourism industry and revitalize the local economy.
CEO Gil graduated from Kyonggi University with a degree in English Language and Literature and managed a honeymoon travel agency from 1992 to 1998. He later served as CEO of Korail Tourism Development. The Seoul Metropolitan Government evaluated that he possesses comprehensive experience and expertise capable of fostering the development of Seoul's tourism industry, which has faced difficulties due to COVID-19, including serving as a member of the 5th Seoul Metropolitan Council.
New non-executive Chairman Byun currently serves as Vice Chairman of Ambassador Hotel Group and previously served as CEO of COEX. Additionally, non-executive directors appointed include Kim Soo-young, Professor of Hotel and Tourism Management at Sejong Cyber University; Oh Sang-hee, CEO of Sebang Travel; and Yang Deok-hee, CEO of the Future Education Development Institute. Kim Ok-jin, CFO (CEO) of Sampyo, was appointed as non-executive auditor.
CEO Gil said, “In the post-COVID era, a silent war will be waged to capture new tourism markets. I will incorporate the diverse experiences and reflections I have gained so far into various projects of the Seoul Tourism Foundation to contribute to its leap beyond the pre-COVID-19 era and become one of the world’s top five tourist cities.”
