Hong Kong Bans Use of 'Taiwan Government·President' Terms on Public Broadcasting
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Hong Kong public broadcaster RTHK has created an internal guideline prohibiting any expressions that refer to Taiwan as a country.
On the 21st, RTHK reported that the previous day, the management created and distributed an internal guideline stating that, in order to comply with the "One China" principle, any terms implying that Taiwan is a separate sovereign state must not be used.
Accordingly, all RTHK radio, TV programs, and online content are banned from using "Taiwan government," "Taiwan president (총통)," "Republic of China," and other "inappropriate terms."
"Taiwan government" will be replaced with "Taiwan authorities," and "Taiwan president (총통)" will be expressed as "Taiwan leader."
Amid worsening cross-strait (兩岸, China and Taiwan) relations, Hong Kong and Taiwan have effectively entered the process of severing official ties.
