Gochang-gun Transfers 106 Artifacts to Gochang Dolmen Museum

According to the Gochang Dolmen Museum on the 21st, it received 106 relics excavated from the Gochang area from the Cultural Heritage Administration for the first time since being designated as the 'Nationally Owned Cultural Heritage Storage and Management Delegated Institution' in September last year.

This transfer of relics was made possible because the Dolmen Museum was designated as the 'Nationally Owned Cultural Heritage Storage and Management Delegated Institution' by the Cultural Heritage Administration in September last year after improving the storage facilities.

Until now, relics excavated in Gochang had no choice but to be stored outside Gochang, such as at the National Jeonju Museum.

The transferred relics consist of 106 items including celadon boxes and celadon cups excavated during the 5th excavation of the Gochang Yonggyeri Celadon Kiln Site, a historic site, in 2018.

After being designated as a delegated institution for storage and management, the transfer of nationally owned cultural heritage means that Gochang has been granted the right to directly possess and exhibit its cultural assets.

Along with this right comes the responsibility to preserve and utilize the relics.

In the future, the museum plans not only to store relics in the storage but also to actively utilize and research them through various cultural heritage projects promoted by the county.

Additionally, as the national ownership procedures are completed for important relics excavated in Gochang, including the recently excavated Banamri kiln site, step-by-step transfer consultations will be conducted.

County Governor Yu Gisang said, "It is an eternal truth that cultural heritage shines only when it is in its original place," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that the precious relics excavated in Gochang grow and are utilized within Gochang."
