Lee Jun-seok: "No Change in Public Official Qualification Exam... Don't Bring Up Marginal Cases"
Declared Commitment to Fulfilling Pledges via SNS
"Must Win Reform Competition to Secure Presidential Victory"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, reiterated on the 20th his intention to promote the "Public Official Qualification Exam," which was a pledge during the party convention.
Through social media (SNS) on the same day, Lee said, "There are people creating various stories about the basic qualification exam for public office candidates," adding, "There has been no change in the content since I first mentioned it as a pledge during the party convention."
He pointed out, "Of course, the new changes we are attempting are based on dismantling the vested interests of those who have enjoyed many privileges so far," and "Those accustomed to the inertia of the old system exaggerate threats and emphasize fringe cases."
Lee said, "I hope people do not cite the fringe case of 'someone who can perform legislative activities well but cannot pass the basic qualification exam,'" and criticized, "It sounds similar to 'someone who cannot pass the driver's license test but can drive well.'"
He stated, "If the capabilities of local councilors auditing local governments in the Republic of Korea are lacking compared to the efforts and passion of the younger generation fiercely preparing for the Grade 9 civil service exam, then we are thinking about something wrong," adding, "In a situation where we must compete toward presidential election victory with a reform plan that cuts to the bone, there should be no one who tries to end it with superficial reform just because the situation has slightly improved."
He continued, "Leading the issues in this reform competition and showing a speed that the Democratic Party cannot follow is the best presidential election strategy."
