Operation of Citizen-Led Smart City Living Lab in Jinju City
Citizens Actively Participate in Building Future Smart Advanced Cities
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 20th that it will conduct the ‘Smart City Living Lab’ a total of four times from the 17th to October to reflect citizens' opinions in building a future city using smart information technology and solving various urban problems.
A Living Lab means a ‘laboratory in daily life,’ where citizens actively participate in a bottom-up decision-making process to identify and solve everyday problems and build a future smart advanced city. Citizen participation is a key element.
The city publicly recruited participants for the Living Lab and received applications from citizens with interest and passion, recruiting a total of 39 people.
The main topics include ▲citizen safety ▲traffic issues ▲environmental problems ▲cultural tourism city ▲talent development and education ▲industrial city creation ▲systematic urban infrastructure construction, and collecting citizens' opinions on solutions to urban problems in daily life and ways to realize an advanced city.
In addition, the city plans to continuously operate visiting Smart City Living Labs such as citizen groups, local universities, and expert meetings, actively reflecting them in the basic smart city plan and policy projects to create a citizen-led smart city.
At the event, Mr. Kim, who usually volunteers in traffic service, said, “There are many inconveniences in daily life such as restaurant use and mobility for people with disabilities,” and added, “I think it is meaningful to participate in the Living Lab that considers these inconveniences together for the development of Jinju and problem-solving.”
