Gwangju City to Collect 'Rainwater' for Reuse in Ornamental Trees and More
'Completion of the Rainwater Storage Installation Project'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju City announced on the 19th that it has completed the "Rainwater Storage Tank Installation Project" at a total of 21 locations this year with a budget of 80 million KRW.
The rainwater storage tank is a facility that collects rainwater falling on building roofs into storage tanks to be reused for landscaping, vegetable gardens, cleaning water, and other purposes.
By reusing discarded rainwater, it reduces tap water usage and saves on water bills.
It also helps reduce the load on sewage systems during rainfall and actively addresses water shortage issues caused by climate change, such as mitigating the urban heat island effect.
This project provided support covering 90% of installation costs, up to a maximum of 10 million KRW, for buildings with roof areas under 1,000㎡, apartment complexes with building areas under 10,000㎡, and schools with building areas under 5,000㎡ (excluding new constructions).
Through this year's announcement, 26 applicants applied for the rainwater storage tank installation.
After on-site inspections and evaluations based on utilization, promotional effect, and water collection capacity, a final 21 locations including daycare centers, single-family houses, multi-family houses, and religious facilities were selected, and installation work was completed last month.
The city has been promoting the rainwater storage tank installation project since last year, focusing on daycare centers and single-family houses, and plans to continue the project next year to create a water circulation leading city together with its citizens.
