Will a Cluster Infection Occur in the Cheonghae Unit? 61 New Cases, 68 Total Confirmed
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] A large-scale cluster infection has been confirmed in the Navy Cheonghae Unit where COVID-19 cases occurred.
According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff on the 18th, as of 8 a.m. that day, 61 out of 101 crew members on the Munmu Daewang ship who received test results were newly confirmed positive. This means that two-thirds of those notified of the results were infected with COVID-19. The cumulative number of confirmed cases increased to 68 within three days since the first confirmed case was identified on the 15th.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff stated, "Out of approximately 300 crew members who underwent polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing requested by local health authorities, results for 101 individuals have been received," adding, "Including the 7 previously confirmed cases, 68 tested positive and 33 tested negative."
