[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] On the 3rd, the first confirmed case occurred at the Seoul rally held by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), and on the 17th, Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum issued an urgent statement through the Prime Minister's Office.
On that day, Prime Minister Kim stated, "Amid the severe spread of COVID-19, as the head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, I express deep regret that a confirmed case has emerged among the attendees of the KCTU workers' rally, despite repeated requests for restraint."
According to the Prime Minister's Office, the confirmed case is a woman in her 50s belonging to a labor union, and during the epidemiological investigation after confirmation, her attendance at the rally was verified.
Prime Minister Kim continued, "I strongly urge all attendees of the recent workers' rally to immediately visit the nearest screening clinic and undergo diagnostic testing regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms."
It was reported that about 8,000 people attended the KCTU workers' rally held around the Jongno area in Seoul at that time.

Earlier, on the 15th, Minister of Health and Welfare Kwon Deok-cheol responded to a question during the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee comprehensive policy inquiry about whether there was an intention to conduct a full survey of rally attendees, stating, "If confirmed cases occur, we will immediately conduct a full survey."
