Yeungnam Institute of Technology Wins Two Awards at Daegu Public Data Utilization Startup Competition
The results are being announced at the Daegu City Public Data Utilization Startup Competition.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Students of Yeungnam College of Science and Technology won two awards, including the highest prize, the Grand Prize, at the ‘2021 Daegu Metropolitan City Public Data Utilization Startup Competition’.
Hosted by Daegu City and the Daegu Digital Industry Promotion Agency, the ‘2021 Daegu Metropolitan City Public Data Utilization Startup Competition’ was held to discover creative ideas and products (services) using public data, systematically support them, uncover key local content, and promote startups and job creation.
The Grand Prize-winning team, ‘Sewol Nakneun Juya 3-gyodae’ (Yeungnam College of Science and Technology Cybersecurity School 1st-year students Son Seung-ho, Kim Jun-sik, Lee Dong-gyu), developed a phishing site detection method and detection app using government agency URL data and machine learning, receiving high scores for their social contribution value in preventing phishing damage.
The Excellence Award-winning team, ‘Yemyeonghada’ (Yeungnam College of Science and Technology Software Contents Department 3rd-year students Kim Da-young, Jo Ha-rin), developed an app called VITAMIN (Vital Map In Nutrition) that helps undernourished children use meal cards more conveniently while ensuring nutrition, recognized for their efforts to solve the realistic problems of undernourished children and the positive effects of their work.
Yeungnam College of Science and Technology previously won the Grand Prize in 2017 with the ‘No Smoking Zone Notification App.’ In 2018, they received the Daegu Mayor’s Award, the Grand Prize, for ‘Wind, Don’t Hurt (Disease Management App),’ and in 2019, they earned the Special Award from the Daegu Digital Industry Promotion Agency for ‘Life Study (Senior Job Support App).’
This year, by winning both the Grand Prize and the Excellence Award, the college’s competitiveness in developing creative ideas and products using public data was once again recognized.
Kim Da-young, a 3rd-year student in the Software Contents Department who won the Excellence Award, said, “Through the on-campus Capstone Design class, I was able to generate ideas, create the actual work, and submit it, which was a very educational experience. I am happy to have achieved good results with a project that can help solve social problems.”
Lee Jae-yong, President of Yeungnam College of Science and Technology, said, “We achieved a valuable accomplishment by winning two awards at this prestigious annual competition aimed at startups and job creation. We will continue to devote efforts to help students grow through various programs such as on-campus creative idea and portfolio competitions and Capstone Design.”
