'National Cybersecurity Policy Coordination Meeting' Chaired by Seo Hoon, Director of National Security Office... Deputy Ministers from 16 Ministries Attend
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] Seo Hoon, Director of the National Security Office, chaired the 'National Cybersecurity Policy Coordination Meeting' (video conference) attended by vice ministers from 16 ministries at the Blue House National Crisis Management Center on the 16th, urgently inspecting the current state of cyber threats and response systems.
Director Seo stated, "Ransomware attacks have been continuously occurring domestically and internationally this year, requiring more meticulous government response than ever before," adding, "Especially in a situation where cyber dependence is deepening due to COVID-19, all government agencies must check their preparedness and respond proactively to cyber threats from unspecified forces."
The attendees of the meeting shared the recognition that cybersecurity is an essential element directly linked to national security. Reports from each ministry were also made.

View original imageThe National Intelligence Service recently reported that cyber attacks have been occurring indiscriminately across civilian, public, and military sectors, and decided to integrate and unify the cyber alert issuance system. The NIS will continue cyber-related cooperation with allied intelligence agencies.
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced efforts to build a safe digital environment in response to recent domestic and international ransomware attacks. In particular, it plans to expand the scope of critical national infrastructure closely related to citizens' lives and strengthen protection measures.
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration reported plans to establish a specialized agency for protecting defense technology. Additionally, it will introduce the U.S. defense cybersecurity certification system to elevate the defense technology protection system to an advanced country level.
Meanwhile, as part of the implementation measures of the Korea-U.S. summit agreement, the government decided to jointly respond to global cyber threats between Korea and the U.S. It announced plans to launch a Korea-U.S. Cyber Working Group involving relevant ministries to strengthen cooperation with the U.S.
Director Seo said, "For social infrastructure that can cause enormous inconvenience to citizens' lives from even a single hacking incident and for advanced defense technology directly linked to national security, the highest level of security management system must be established as if in an emergency."
