'Hwang Hana, Accused of Drug Use and Theft During Probation, Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison in First Trial, Appeals'
Suspected of Using Drugs 5 Times Including Methamphetamine Injection in August Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Hwang Hana (33), who was sentenced to 2 years in prison in the first trial for using drugs and theft during the probation period, has filed an appeal.
According to the legal community on the 14th, Hwang's side submitted a notice of appeal to the first trial court, the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 9 (Chief Judge Lee Seon-mal), on the same day.
Hwang is being tried on charges of using the drug Philopon a total of five times, including with her late husband Oh Mo and three others in August last year, and again with Oh Mo at a motel in Seoul at the end of the same month.
Hwang is also charged with stealing items worth about 5 million won from the residence of Kim Mo, who used drugs with her, on November 29 last year.

Hwang's side argued during the trial that there was insufficient evidence to prove the charges, but the first trial court sentenced her to imprisonment. The court explained, "She committed similar crimes such as drug use and theft during the probation period, denied the crimes from the investigation stage to the court, and did not show remorse."
