Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Conducts Relay Safety Campaign at Port Worksites
Spreading Workplace Safety Culture to Prevent Port Safety Accidents and Major Disasters
Participation in Campaign by Wharf Operators, Stevedores, Hinterland Complex Tenants, and Harbor Workers' Union
[Gwangyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Cha Minsik) announced on the 14th that it will conduct a relay safety campaign from this month until the end of the year to spread a safety culture aimed at preventing safety accidents and serious disasters in port workplaces.
This event is conducted in a relay format where port cargo handling industry groups (cargo owners, shipping companies, operators, stevedores, port labor unions, subcontractors, construction sites, etc.) participate by holding safety placards, shouting workplace safety slogans (Promises for the safety of Yeosu Gwangyang Port! etc.), and recommending the next participant.
The safety placards include safety measures that must be strictly observed on site, such as ▲thorough TBM meetings before work △strengthening the deployment of safety managers and signalers ▲thorough safety education for daily workers ▲compliance with cargo handling safety rules ▲checking workplace points of concern ▲workplace organization and tidiness.
President Cha Minsik, who participated as the first participant in the campaign that day, said, “Above all, workers' safety awareness is important to prevent workplace safety accidents,” and added, “Let us continuously maintain a culture of safe working environments through this campaign.”
He continued, “We will continue to support safety activities such as campaigns to recognize and share the safety values of Yeosu Gwangyang Port,” and added, “We ask for the interest and participation of the Yeosu Gwangyang Port family.”
Meanwhile, President Cha designated Yeosu Gwangyang Port Management Co., Ltd. as the next participant in the campaign.
The authority plans to continuously promote safety projects such as reorganizing the safety and health system, strengthening on-site safety and health management, and utilizing safety management systems based on 4th industrial technology to strengthen the prevention of industrial and serious disasters at the port.
