Mayor Heo Seong-mu's Solo Protest at the Ministry of Health and Welfare: "No More Room to Back Down"
4 Special Mayors and Council Chairs Issue Statement: "Revise the Basic Property Amount Causing Discrimination Against Special City Citizens"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] On the 14th, Heo Seong-mu, chairman of the National Special City Mayors' Association, held a press statement in front of the Ministry of Health and Welfare building, stating that "The revision of the notification that does not reflect the reality of special cities with populations exceeding one million causes relative inequality among citizens and deepens reverse discrimination," and began a one-person relay protest.
Earlier, on the 12th, the four special city mayors had already submitted a petition to the National Assembly's Health and Welfare Committee and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, requesting that the basic property amount for special cities be applied based on the standards for large cities.
Mayor Heo criticized the government, saying, "Despite repeatedly raising the issue of reverse discrimination in welfare benefits to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the National Assembly, and the Autonomy Decentralization Committee, the response to solving the problem has been lukewarm," and added, "Considering the reverse discrimination experienced by 4.5 million citizens so far, we have no room to back down."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Welfare is scheduled to hold a subcommittee meeting of the Central Living Security Committee this morning to decide whether to include the agenda item of 'whether to apply the basic property amount calculation for special cities based on the large city standard' as an additional agenda.
