The blood donation event has been held twice a year in cooperation with the Gwangju-Jeonnam Blood Center of the Korean Red Cross to overcome the crisis of blood shortage.
As social distancing continues due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the number of blood donors has sharply decreased, creating a situation where emergency blood supply is needed due to insufficient proper blood stock. Many related organizations under the county, including public officials, Korea Rural Community Corporation, Yeongam Fire Station, Yeongam Credit Union, Yeongam Office of Education, Wolchulsan National Park, and LX Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation, will also participate.
Residents who wish to donate blood must refrain from drinking alcohol, taking medication, or receiving acupuncture treatment the day before donation, and must bring a valid ID.
A county official said, "Blood cannot be artificially produced and can only be secured through blood donation, so we hope many residents will participate and that voluntary participation will become a spark that saves lives and an opportunity to practice love."
