On the 13th, Park held a press conference at the National Assembly to announce his presidential candidacy, saying, "I want to start today the great journey to restore broken fairness and justice, recover damaged liberal democracy to correct the identity of the Republic of Korea, and achieve a true free advanced country with a free market economy and free democratic unification."
Park, a four-term veteran and former foreign service officer, is considered a leading "diplomatic expert" within the legislature. In May, he visited the United States as part of the People Power Party's "vaccine delegation" along with fellow party member Choi Hyung-doo.
Park said, "I want to create a country where citizens are free and happy, where future generations can challenge themselves to realize their dreams, and where global diplomacy and politics match the dignity of a nation that has joined the ranks of advanced countries. In this 21st-century global era, we must stop division and conflict and unite as one people to build a hopeful future for the Republic of Korea."
He continued, "During the four years of the Moon Jae-in administration, public distrust in politics only grew, and instead of national unity, there was national division. Our politics, which should move forward, have become like frogs in a well. We have not escaped backwardness such as political revenge, purging of deep-rooted evils, regionalism, and factional fights," criticizing the Moon administration.
He stated, "Regime change is the answer," and argued, "We must break free from the exhausting domestic political framework and pursue our national interests and find strategies for national survival amid the changing international society."
Park also said, "A leader who responds realistically to the rapidly changing political, economic, diplomatic, trade, and security environment in the COVID-19 era, a leader who firmly upholds our national interests on the international stage, and a leader who enhances the competitiveness of our country and companies amid technological hegemony and leads global sales diplomacy is the true advanced country-type president. I will stop the politics of hatred and division that divide the people and lead bipartisan cooperation and coexistence for the national interest, embracing and uniting the people with great politics." He raised his voice, saying, "I will become an advanced country-type global president who opens a new future for the Republic of Korea."

Park expressed the view that presidential candidates outside the party need to join. At a meeting with reporters after the press conference, he said, "I am not sure what kind of judgment those outside the party are making, but if they are considering joining the People Power Party, I think it is better to come in quickly. Having a fair competition through primaries within the party is good for party members and the public."
